The new secondary curriculum reforms start in September 2008. The key elements of the reforms are: - An encouragement for schools to develop greater flexibility in the curriculum, especially through the use of PLTs (Personal Learning and Thinking Skills)
- A revision of GCSE and A level specifications
- The introduction of Functional Skills
- Four key pathways of qualifications : Diplomas, GCSEs and A levels, Apprenticeships and the Foundation Learning Tier
- The pathways and the entitlement for all learners to access these qualifications has to be delivered by each partnership by 2013
